Abstract:
“Sessions,” is a three-channel Audio/Video installation featuring motion studies of dancers, in segmented repetition, each movement representing a drum pattern. The choreography becomes a visual representation of the sound loops composed for the project.

Project Description:
The content is displayed in sync on 3 screens. Each screen displays a unique angle of view for each motion study. The motion studies come in 3 different perspectives. The first perspective breaks up the motion in a linear perspective in 3-D space. The second perspective is an overlaid set of loops. The third perspective breaks up the motion in a 3-D carousel like layout. The clips are representations of loops acquired from performances by dancers. The sound in the installation corresponds to the rhythm in which the clips appear on screen, thus providing a rudimentary BPM. The rhythm provided by the audio video loop samples Overlaid creates a unique sound composition.

Second, I explored the notion of sampling moments in time at regular time intervals. This was accomplished by creating an interface and environment that amplifies the notion of a sampled moment in time. I recorded footage of dancers and sampled a specific instance in their movement and choreographed that sample to a sound bed that runs at 120 beats per minute. Dissecting time by sampling it, allowed me to arrange the samples within a visual interface. I lead way to a visual sampler interface, in which you can toggle the playback at different speeds further explore the motion sampled.

To explore an aspect in the moving image that is often disregarded or taken for granted. Temporal resolution is a topic I want to explore further by using the subject of levitation. Capturing a moment in time and slowing it down enough to see what happens between frames.

Abstract:
“Levitation” is a spiritual rite that celebrates time and space. The subject matter on my installation examines time and space as a spiritual exercise. Dissecting time and space and capturing thru motion studies. The studies in turn create a loop in the forth dimension (time). The relevance of this forth dimension is the key to the spiritual examination of my reality. Amplifying a particular moment in time to create a spiritual understanding. “Levitation” pays homage to the ritual of experiencing time and space by means of an updated pentagram as a platform for spiritual understanding.

Project Description:
I deem it essential in my reality, to create an environment in which levitation and communion are fundamental. The subject of levitation embodies many of the attributes of cross sectioning time and space. This type of phenomenon has a direct relation to a spiritual awakening. A body floating off the ground defying gravity in locations as varied as the people represented performing this supernatural act.

The act of communion is part of the interaction process the audience will have with the installation. For instance the communion will take place when the viewer consumes a fragment of a chocolate sculpture that is specifically designed and sculpted to represent the themes of Cross Sections of time and space. The chocolate symbolizes and embodies the spirit of the project; the consumption of the chocolate will indoctrinate the audience into the spell of the work. If you eat the art you become the art!
